Maghribi

Maghribi is a mobile quiz game on Moroccan history and culture, designed around retention and social competition. A personal project taken end to end: game design, full-stack development and art direction (fully in-house identity — zellige, terracotta/gold/green palette, “Jni the genie” mascot). Game logic runs server-side to guarantee security and fairness.

Modules

  1. 01

    Daily challenge & national leaderboard

17 identical questions for everyone each day: comparable scores and a fair country-wide leaderboard. A daily return loop that brings players back.

  2. 02

    Snappy, dynamic scoring

Speed-based points (the faster you answer, the more you score), a 3-round escalation (shrinking timer 12→9→7 s, points ×1/×2/×3) and a combo multiplier. Every game is tense.

  3. 03

    Power-ups, coins & avatar collection

Strategic power-ups (50/50, +time, skip, ×2) bought with a currency earned by playing, disabled in ranked mode for fairness. A mascot in themed costumes, server-side random chests and a legendary avatar unlocked by completing a collection.

  4. 04

    RPG progression & retention

XP curve decoupled from score, levels and honorific titles (Beginner → Legend of Morocco), daily streak with an animated medal, illustrated achievements and rewarding feedback (confetti, celebrations).

  5. 05

    Anti-cheat architecture

All scoring is computed server-side (Postgres security definer functions). The client never knows the correct answer: questions exposed via a public view that hides the solution, answer positions shuffled per session and stored server-side.

  6. 06

    Game logic in the database

Score, combo, speed, XP, coins, chest draws, legendary unlocks: everything lives in Postgres RPC (SQL / PL/pgSQL), guaranteeing consistency and security. Guest auth, real-time persistence, relational model (profiles, sessions, progression, inventory).
